The province of Balouchestan borders Kerman province to the east and south. Balouch and Turkeman rugs are very similar in the intricate geometric designs they use, where the pattern is formed by the repetition of stylized camel’s foot or some other imaginary shapes surrounded by a geometric border. They rarely come in sizes larger than 3 by 5 feet. The quality of the wool is excellent and the pile is trimmed very short, but lasts forever. The dark reds and blues used on these rugs create a beautiful contrast making the splashes of white stand out. The foundation is either white cotton or grey wool; knots are normally very small and tightly packed down. The average knot density for Balouch rugs is anywhere between 180 and 250 KPSI.
