Qashqai The Qashqai are a large tribal group scattered mainly around the city of Shiraz in Fars province. With passage of a season to another, they move to higher or lower elevations within the area, together with their herds of sheep and goat. This is why weaving large pieces of rugs by Qashqai tribes would be difficult. Qashqai rugs have hand-spun wool and natural dyes, and therefore very durable. The pattern is highly geometric, often including drawings of animals, birds, and sometimes the head of a horse. Foundation is mostly cotton, but wool is not uncommon either. As Gabbeh rugs gained more popularity in Western markets, many weavers of this region switched their production from traditional Qashqai to modern Gabbeh rugs. Qashqai rugs are good examples of nomadic Persian rugs. They are very decorative and look fabulous in many different environments. Average knot density is 150-180 KPSI.
