Sarouk is located in Arak province, and has always been a major producer of fine Persian rugs. Compared to cities like Isfahan and Kashan, Sarouk rugs are woven in a narrow range of styles and qualities, but still well-suited to the taste of western markets. Foundation is always cotton, with two shots of blue weft passing over each row of knots and packed tightly. The blue color of the weft makes these rugs easy to spot. Pattern is a floral “Shah Abbasi” with or without a center medallion in Sarouk rugs. All sizes are woven in these rugs, but room size is more common than small pieces. Sarouk rugs are one of the most sought after in western markets, and some old pieces can be quite valuable. Traditional colors of red, rust, blue, and ivory with strong contrast between the field and the border are common in Sarouk rugs. Knot density, on average, is 100-180 KPSI.
