Tafresh
Tafresh is a small city in central province near the Arak weaving area. Tafresh rugs are structurally in Hamadan group with a thicker pile and softer wool. Patterns are geometric, often including animal motifs. Smaller sizes, up to 6 by 9 feet, are more common in these rugs. Traditional colors of strong red, dark or light blue, brown, and ivory are used in majority of Tafresh rugs. The foundation is normally cotton with one single shot of weft inserted over each row of knots. Tafresh rugs are very unique, both in pattern and color combination, and fairly easy to spot. Although of medium quality, some older pieces are genuine examples of geometric Persian rugs, and can be valuable. Average knot density in Tafresh rugs is 120-150 KPSI, and somewhat higher in older pieces.
