Yazd
Yazd is the capital city of Yazd province, and a major producer of some of the finest Persian rugs. A few different patterns are used by weavers of this region, the most common of which is “Shah Abbasi” corner and medallion, resembling rugs woven in Kerman. The foundation is cotton, with two shots of weft passing over each row of knots. A good indication to differentiate Yazd from Kerman rugs is the blue color of weft in Yazd versus white in Kerman. High quality of wool and dyes in Yazd rugs make them very durable, and older pieces are quite valuable. These rugs are woven in all different sizes, but smaller pieces tend to be the norm. Typical colors of Yazd rugs are strong traditional reds, blue, and ivory. The average knot density is 140-150 KPSI, but can reach higher numbers in some older pieces.
